Northwest Pickles, Courtesy of the Far East

Chris got to this first. Can you believe it? The fuckers are even outsourcing our pickles.

that gives me an uneasy feeling. who’s monitoring the foodstuffs? i mean, these aren’t fresh vegetables so they’re not bound to the same rigors that our own produce is (though even that’s iffy).

i can’t help but think that the product quality will go down

This is yet another reason why we should buy local.

I quit buying Nalley pickles and started looking at the back of about every jar when I saw on the label: Product of India. This was a few months ago. I do be believe the front of the jar said, “from the Northwest”.
    Sure.

Not that I have a huge problem with people from India… or all their products. But, I draw the line at pickles.. I mean, Jesus… last I looked we could still grow cucumbers and all the various pickling agents here in the USA for Christ’s sake!

I do my own pickling–yes, I’m bragging–and I have friends (Hi Molly!) and family (Hi Mom!) who pickle, so I haven’t purchased any industrial pickles in years.

I’m still a label reader, though. Anymore, I’ve been looking for high fructose corn syrup. If it’s in the item, I put it back on the shelf.
